Jonny Wilkinson booted 19 points as Toulon overcame Montpellier 29-13 on Friday, a victory that takes them third in the table.
The four points has moved Philippe Saint-Andre's men just six points behind league leaders Toulouse, who face a tricky trip to Clermont on Saturday.
Toulon were always in control as Wilkinson opened up an early 6-0 lead with two penalties inside 15 minutes.
A third penalty four minutes before the break was quickly cancelled out by opposing kicker Martin Bustos-Moyano, but the hosts went in 12-3 to the good after the former England fly-half struck again.
Stade Felix Mayol was then treated to its first try of the cold night soon after the restart, when the home side crossed thanks to centre Geoffroy Messina going over. Wilkinson added the extras.
Then came a score for forgotten England wing Paul Sackey, who went over before the hour, two minutes after Bustos-Moyano added three for Montpol.
Surprise package Montpellier did eventually cross close to the finish when replacement Benoit Paillaugue got over the whitewash but it was all in vain.
