Liam Gill's late try which was converted by Quade Cooper ensured the points would be shared after the Brumbies led 13-7 at half time.
Two early penalties from Christian Lealiifano put the Brumbies into a 6-0 lead in the opening ten minutes before the game's first try.
The Reds eventually forced their way over through Jake Schatz after a succession of penalties and lineout drives piled on the pressure.
Lealiifano restored the Brumbies' lead with a try of his own, Jesse Mogg's initial break resulting in an overlap on the right as Lealiifano dummied his way past Digby Ioane.
Opportunities
The Reds continued to squander opportunities for points, a reversal at the scrum seeing Will Genia go quickly and Lealiifano sin-binned for offside before the Brumbies stole the resulting lineout and cleared.
Nic White missed a pair of penalties with Lealiifano in the bin to ensure the Brumbies held a six-point advantage during the interval.
Reds pressure at the beginning of the second half eventually resulted in a try for Rod Davies after a lofted pass from Cooper, although the fly-half missed the ensuing conversion.
Two more penalties from Lealiifano opened up a seven-point lead for the Brumbies heading into the final quarter.
The decisive moment came when a Brumbies scrum five metres from their own line was reversed with a penalty to the hosts, igniting another punishing period of pressure on their own try line before Liam Gill touched down. Cooper's added the extras for a share of the spoils.
