The Bulls ended a five-match losing streak with a 47-17 dismissal of the Highlanders at Loftus Versfeld.
Following a week of meetings to discuss the team's poor displays, the defending champions finally looked something like just that.
The romp started as early as the second minute when fly-half Morne Steyn, who had a stunning game, slotted the first penalty to put the Bulls ahead.
Two minutes later their first backline movement produced the opening try. Spreading the ball wide to Bryan Habana, the Springboks flyer slid a grubber kick behind the opposition for full-back Zane Kirchner to score.
A second penalty followed soon after before Steyn broke through the midfield and sent the ball wide to Kirchner, who went inside before passing the ball out to Akona Ndungane to score another try.
Kirchner got his second shortly afterwards as Derick Hougaard put him away down the touchline and a quick one-two with Ndungane brought the ball back to him to cross.
And early in the second half, Kirchner laid the ball off for JP Nel to cross the line and put the Bulls 35-3 up.
After an action-filled first hour, the Bulls' intensity levels dropped, allowing the Highlanders to score tries through Tom Donnelly and Chris King.
But Pedrie Wannenburg and Ndungane added further scores in the final 10 minutes as the Bulls finally pulled off a performance worthy of their status.
