Brive did their chances of avoiding relegation from the Top 14 the world of good with a convincing 26-10 victory over Stade Francais.
The result, only Brive's second win in 13 games, see them climb out of the drop zone - they now sit three points above second-from-bottom La Rochelle.
In contrast, Stade Francais' ninth loss already this season seriously compromises their chances of making the play-offs - they also look set to miss out on a place in the Heineken Cup for a second consecutive year.
Ollie Phillips gave them the lead with an early try, but poor discipline allowed Julien Caminati and Mathieu Belie to kick Brive into a 9-5 lead at the break.
It was more of the same after the half-time interval before South African flanker Antonie Claassen's late score gave the hosts an unassailable advantage.
Winger Djibril Camara scored a late consolation try for Stade, who had also lost to Brive in the return fixture earlier in the season.
