Leicester Tigers overcame a 9-6 half-time deficit to see off Bath at Welford Road.
In a game dominated by the kickers, Andy Goode weighed in with 16 points to see the Tigers past a resolute Bath side, while Johne Murphy and Matt Smith also crossed for tries for the reigning champions.
For Bath, Shane Berne landed 11 points from the boot while Rob Hawkins crossed for a second half try.
It was the boot of Berne that had seen Bath edge the first half with the Sydney-born centre landing three penalties.
However, Goode kept the Tigers in touch with two efforts of his own.
In fact, the England No.10 had a mixed day with the boot - missing three kicks in the second half - and it took a try from Murphy on 50 minutes to see the Tigers in front, the Irish winger bursting through from 40m to score.
Levelled
Goode converted and then added a drop-goal to give Leicester a seven-point lead.
However Bath levelled the scores on the hour when Hawkins was driven over the Tigers line and Berne tagged on the extras.
But, with the result in the balance, Leicester moved up the gears to close out the game.
Goode added a penalty before slotting over the conversion when Smith brokeaway to score in the dying minutes.
