The world number four, who finished outside the top 64 who competed in eight UK Open qualifying events, takes on 250/1 shot Green in the best-of-nine leg clash at the Reebok Stadium on Thursday.
And the BDO star has come in for plenty of support with Sky Bet and is an 11/4 shot to dump 'The Machine' out of 'The FA Cup of Darts' at the first hurdle.
Sky Bet darts manager, Craig Ibbotson, said: "We have seen money for Green to upset the applecart and dump Wade (1/4) out of the tournament and at odds of 11/4, I would have to agree that is tremendous value."
Other potential preliminary round shocks coulld come when amateur qualifier Conan Whitehead (11/4) takes on 2004 champion Roland Scholten (1/4), while world number 10 Justin Pipe (1/6) must see off Welshman Gareth Pass (7/2).
Four-time UK Open champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor is also in action in preliminary round against Kevin 'Bounty Hunter' Dowling (10/1) after finishing 44th in qualifying. Taylor (1/33) isn't expected to slip up against the Coventry-based design engineer.
Dutchman Michael van Gerwen heads the field with the online bookmaker at 7/4 from world champion Taylor (7/2). Defending champion Robert Thornton is a 25/1 shot.
Van Gerwen, winner of five of the qualifiers, joins the fray in Friday's third round with the top 32 including Thornton, Raymond van Barneveld (12/1) and Australian Simon Whitlock 16/1.
