Mario Gomez returned to haunt his former club with two goals as Bayern Munich opened up a three-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-1 victory at 10-man Stuttgart.
Christian Gentner put the home side in front in the seventh minute, but Gomez brought Bayern level six minutes later.
Stuttgart were reduced to 10 men in the 29th minute when Cristian Molinaro was given a harsh red card and Gomez sealed Bayern's victory in the 57th minute.
Closest challengers Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw by Kaiserslautern at the Westfalenstadion in Sunday's earlier kick-off.
Despite having plenty of chances, Dortmund only managed to score once with Shinji Kagawa on target in the 27th minute.
And that goal was not enough to win the game as Olcay Sahan earned a much-needed point for Marco Kurz's Kaiserslautern in the 60th minute, lifting them out of the bottom three as a result.
