Defences dominate in latest Bundesliga fixture

High-flying Freiburg were unable to break down a resolute Eintracht Frankfurt outfit on Sunday. The hosts could have drawn level with fifth-placed Bayern Munich with a win, but were forced to settle for a point from a goalless draw. The game featured two of the Bundesliga's top scorers in Papiss Cisse and Theofanis Gekas, but defences came out on top at the Badenova Stadion. Freiburg nevertheless extended their unbeaten run to seven games while Frankfurt collected their first point of 2011, but ensured they have now gone four games without a goal. The first chance of the match went to Frankfurt in the 22nd minute when Patrick Ochs got away from Cedrick Makiadi to fire in a volley which Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann did well to parry to safety.

Pressed

The visitors again went close after 40 minutes but Pirmin Schwegler's long-range effort flew just over the crossbar. Frankfurt had yet another opportunity just three minutes later through Ochs but he fired over the bar from 10 yards. Freiburg pressed on in the second half with Makiadi's effort from outside the area just missing the target after 57 minutes. The visitors, however, had the more dangerous chances after the break, in particular Gekas' header which went just over the frame of the goal in the 64th minute. And the stalemate was assured with 10 minutes to play when the best chance of the match went begging, Maik Franz striking the crossbar from 18 yards after unleashing a ferocious effort.
