Torquay conceded their first league goal for 998 minutes but still managed to beat Port Vale 2-1 to stay top.
The visitors got off to a flying start in Saturday's League Two clash at Vale Park when Chris Zebroski burst clear and was pulled down by Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson to win a fifth-minute penalty. Nicky Wroe sent Tomlinson the wrong way from the spot and the visitors added a second when Vale were down to 10 men after Gareth Owen limped off in the 28th minute. Kevin Nicholson's long throw caused chaos in the penalty area and Elliot Benyon laid on a simple chance for Zebroski to fire home from eight yards. Vale were far from beaten, however, and Anthony Griffith lashed his first league goal from 30 yards to reduce the deficit eight minutes before the interval. Vale almost snatched an equaliser in stoppage time when the immaculate Mark Ellis cleared a Marc Richards header off the line.
