Sean Canham's strike handed Notts County their first home victory in two months after a 1-0 win over Morecambe.
The gangly forward, starting his first league game of the season, stabbed the ball in from close range in the 45th minute following Delroy Facey's cushioned header.
It was harsh on Morecambe who had created the earlier opportunities. A weak back-pass by County debutant Mitchell Hanson let in Danny Carlton, who had his shot smothered, then Fraser McLachlan skied a chance at the far post.
Magpies centre-back John Thompson blocked two further efforts before Canham broke the deadlock.
Ian McParland's men should have extended their lead after the interval with Canham coming close and Facey forcing Shrimps goalkeeper Barry Roche into a fine one-handed save. Facey then rattled the underside of the crossbar after meeting Myles Weston's cross.
Morecambe - who started the game undefeated in five league outings - staged a fightback. Craig Stanley twice had efforts saved, Rene Howe saw his point-blank header caught and Carlton had a powerful drive from range held by Russell Hoult.
