Lyon made it five wins in a row as they defeated
Nancy 2-1 at Stade Gerland.
Karim Benzema set the defending champions on their way with the opening goal on 30 minutes before Fred doubled their advantage five minutes later.
Pascal Berenguer pulled one back for Nancy just a minute later but Lyon held on to put pressure on the chasing pack.
Marseille remain second after playing out a 1-1 draw with fourth-placed
Le Mans.
Both goals arrived in the first 10 minutes with Hatem Ben Arfa's strike (6) cancelled out moments later by Thorstein Helstad (9).
Nice began the day in fifth spot but they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at

Caen piled more misery on struggling
Nantes as they ran out 3-0 winners at Michel-d'Ornano.
Steve Saviden broke the deadlock for Caen after less than a minute and Fahid Benkhalfallah (10) and Benjamin Nivet (30) also found the target as the damage was done in the first half.
Auxerre also climbed the table as they beat lowly
Le Havre 3-0.
Adama Coulibaly struck for Auxerre in the 25th minute and Ireneusz Jelen made it 2-0 after 47 minutes, before Thomas Kahlenberg (83) added late gloss to the scoreline.
Sochaux remain bottom despite salvaging a 1-1 draw at home to
Lorient.
Mevlut Erdinc netted the equaliser eight minutes from time after Dede Ayew had opened the scoring late in the first half.
