Butterfield signs for Grecians

Image: Danny Butterfield: Joins Exeter on a free transfer

Exeter have signed right-back Danny Butterfield on a free transfer, subject to a completed medical.

The 33-year-old, who spent eight years with Crystal Palace before helping Southampton to back-to-back promotions, left Carlisle by mutual consent earlier this month. City boss Paul Tisdale, able to add to his squad thanks to a sell-on in former Grecian Scott Golbourne's move from Barnsley to Wolves, had targetted a right-back after Steve Tully and Kevin Amankwaah departed in the summer. And new acquisition Butterfield, who has also featured for Grimsby, Charlton and Bolton, will be another experienced head in the Exeter back four but he will be unavailable for their clash with Newport on Saturday afternoon.
