Wins for AZ and Utrecht as VVV Venlo draw again
AZ Alkmaar battled to victory at home to Willem II as Utrecht and VVV Venlo maintained their unbeaten starts to the Eredivisie season.
Defending champions
AZ were forced to work hard for the points as Hector Moreno's goal secured a 2-1 success at home to
Willem II.
The hosts were in front after just seven minutes when Brett Holman slotted home after team-mate Mounir El Hamdaoui had failed to connect with a ball into the box.
Willem II were level on 23 minutes when Sergio Zijler scored from close range, only for Moreno's deflected shot a minute later to prove enough to clinch the points for AZ.
VVV Venlo continued their sequence of drawing every game so far this season after a 1-1 stalemate at
NEC Nijmegen.
The visitors took the lead on 30 minutes after NEC's Mitchell Burgzorg was dispossessed by Achmed Ahahaoui, who curled a cross into the area which was headed on by Keisuke Honda for Sandro Calabro to drive home.
NEC snared a point on 56 minutes when a corner from Youssef El-Akchaoui was flicked on by Lorenzo Davids to Ramon Zomer, who struck a sweet volley into the top right corner.
Utrecht made it three wins from four games after a 2-0 home triumph over
Sparta Rotterdam courtesy of goals from Jacob Lensky and Gregoor van Dijk.
Lensky broke Sparta's resistance with a 63rd minute goal and Van Dijk made the points safe with an 82nd minute penalty.
