Scottish League One: Ally McCoist focused on Rangers team not off-field issues

Ally McCoist called on Rangers fans to back the team after their 8-0 win over Stenhousemuir was marred by supporters demanding the removal of the board.

Chants of "sack the board" rang out at Ibrox on 18 and 72 minutes as part of a pre-planned demonstration, while banners were held aloft in protest at the club's directors.

But McCoist refused to be drawn into events off the pitch, and he did not want anything to detract from their superb eight-goal performance.

He said: "All I would say is, we would just ask the fans again to keep on giving the team their continued support.

"I keep saying it, and I make no apology for saying it again, in the last couple of years the fans have kept the club going. Without doubt, they have been absolutely fantastic and their support of the team is all we can ask for.

"There were obviously issues, which I'm certainly not going to get involved in. Particularly after the result today, it would be wrong of me.

"The players and the fans deserve all the credit for that performance."

Jon Daly netted four goals as Rangers maintained their 100 per cent start to the Scottish League One season, and McCoist added: "Jon was fantastic.

"I've been singing the big fellow's praises since he came to the club. On and off the park, he is a real gentleman, a leader.

"We've got good older pros now, which is really important in the restructuring and rebuilding of the club.

"We always knew he would score goals and he is certainly something different, something we have not had in that particular position.

"I believe, if we get the ball into the box, he will score goals, as he proved. He will also score a good quality of goals as well so I'm delighted with the big fellow."
