Celtic midfielder to miss Asian games
Ki Sung-Yong will miss the Asian Games later this month after Celtic refused to release the South Korea international for the tournament.
South Korea Under 23 head coach Hong Myung-bo had tried to negotiate a release for their star midfielder but it is now confirmed Ki will not be part of his 20-man squad.
Clubs are required to release their players for official Fifa matches but the upcoming Asian Games in Guangzhou is not a Fifa affiliated tournament.
To further add to Hong's woes, Monaco striker Park Chu-young pulled out of the squad after choosing to remain in France to help his struggling team.
Monaco are currently languishing in 18th spot in Ligue 1 and would be without a recognised replacement should Park be away in November.
