Jay happy with derby strike

Image: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas: Delighted with stunning goal

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas believes his opening goal in the first Bristol derby for almost seven years as one of the best in his career.

The 22-year-old smashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner from distance to set Bristol City on their way to a 2-1 victory and he explained how he knew his fifth of the season was heading on target when he fired Bobby Reid's pass towards goal. "It is one of the best goals I've ever scored," he said. "I've scored a few like that since I've been playing and one was under the gaffer when he was at Doncaster. I'm hoping I can score a few more like that. "It just opened up for me. When I turned and I was on my left side I thought 'I'm going to take one more touch and if no one closes me down then I'm going to hit it'. And as soon as I'd hit it I knew it was on target, it was a clean strike. "I've looked up and seen it hit the top corner and the keeper was never going to save it. "The celebrations were so loud - it made everyone so happy and I'm glad it was me that scored it. I'm hoping when this derby comes around again then, if I'm here, I can do it again."
