Don Cowan has left Southend after manager Phil Brown decided against extending his contract.
The 23-year-old had signed a one-month deal at Roots Hall but failed to persuade the club to offer him a longer stay having made just one start and two substitute appearances. Brown told the club's official website: "Unfortunately for Don he has picked up an injury which will keep him out for a couple of weeks and with it being a month-to-month basis it doesn't give him much time. "He worked extremely hard during his time with us and we wish him the very best for the future."
