Baldwin not banking on berth

Exeter defender Pat Baldwin is not taking a recall to the starting line-up for granted after missing the defeat at Morecambe.

The former Southend centre-back, a virtual ever-present since signing for the club, stayed behind in Devon with wife Alex who gave birth to their first child on Sunday. In his absence Scot Bennett slotted in alongside Danny Coles and Baldwin knows he cannot count on walking straight back in when York come to St James Park. "I'm available for selection but that doesn't mean I'll go straight in, I just have to hope," he said. "I enjoy playing with Dan (Coles), he's a good player, we've played a lot of games together and we have built up a pretty good understanding but selection is out of my hands - it is up to the manager and what he wants to do. "Fingers crossed I do play. I said to my wife Alex on Friday that now I was staying behind she had to have the baby that weekend, we couldn't have it going into another weekend! "I'm glad its all over and now I can concentrate on the games ahead." After welcoming York on Saturday afternoon the Grecians have another home game on Tuesday night, against Wycombe in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
