Thompson aims for second final

Garry Thompson feels Bradford's Capital One Cup final defeat at Wembley has made them doubly determined to secure promotion.

Phil Parkinson's side were thrashed 5-0 by Swansea in February, but have lost only two of their 14 league games since and after clinching the final play-off place with victory over Burton at the weekend, a return trip to Wembley is now within their sights. "The Carling Cup run was fantastic," Thompson said. "It was great for the players and for the fans, but we knew our main aim this season was to get promoted. We knew as soon as the final whistle went at Wembley it was all about preparation for the next game. "We had to make sure we didn't let the season peter out because we know we've got a good enough squad and good enough staff to get this team promoted. "That has been the driving force behind how we've approached each game since then." The Bantams complete their league fixtures free of any pressure on Saturday at Cheltenham, who could snatch the last automatic promotion place with victory if Rotherham lose against Aldershot. "I was being served by a young City fan at Curry's the other day and he told me it had been the best season he had ever had following the club," Thompson added. "It means so much to us as players to do that, to put a smile on the fans' faces. "We've had a good 90 per cent of the season so far and we want to make sure we have a good final 10 per cent so that come next season we're looking at League One fixtures rather than League Two fixtures."
