Chris Gunter is hoping his inside knowledge of Gareth Bale will help combat the winger when Reading lock horns with Tottenham.
Reading full-back Gunter has the unenviable task of marking his Wales and former Tottenham team-mate at the Madejski Stadium.
Gunter, who joined Reading in the summer of Nottingham Forest, believes Bale is a world-class player, but hopes having played and trained with him at Tottenham and for Wales will help in keeping him quiet on Sunday.
"Obviously over the last couple of years he has probably been one of the best players in the league so hopefully I can use my sort of inside knowledge of playing and training with him for Tottenham and Wales to hopefully keep him quieter than he normally he is," Gunter told
Sky Sports.
Challenge
"Gareth is a world-class player, but that's the great thing about being in this league you are going to come up against some top players every week and different challenges.
"It is important as a player to enjoy it and try and raise your game and standards for challenges like that.
"I am looking forward to coming up against Gareth and hopefully I can do my bit to help Reading get a good result."
It is the first time Gunter has come up against Tottenham since leaving White Hart Lane in 2009 and he is hoping to get one over his old team-mates.
"It will be nice to see a few of the old players as I haven't played against Spurs since I've left," added Gunter. "It will be good to play against a few familiar faces and hopefully get a good result against them."
Settled
Gunter has quickly settled into his new surroundings at Reading and he is enjoying life back in the Premier League.
"I can't speak highly enough of the players, staff and manager and everyone else as it has been really easy to settle in at the club," continued Gunter.
"That has probably been the biggest positive how at home I feel and it is great to be back in the Premier League pitting your wits against the best players around."
