Dutchman to get another chance

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray is hoping to bring Dutch international Romeo Castelen back to the club. The 29-year-old is a free agent and trained with Boro last week, and played in a pre-season friendly. The former Feyenoord and Hamburg ace has now returned to Holland, but Mowbray has confirmed he hopes to see him again. "He's gone back to Holland but I think he'll be coming back for a week or so," said Mowbray. "He's a very experienced, talented player who hasn't played much football recently. It's just whether we give him that platform to get fit because he has undoubted talent.

Money

"He went for a lot of money to Hamburg from Feyenoord, he's played at a real good level and I can see that in flashes and yet if you're not fit it's very difficult to reproduce that. "So there's a fair chance he might be coming back to train with us for a week or two and see if we can get him up to speed." Boro are also hoping to conclude a deal for Swiss goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler - who has spent all of pre-season with the club. The 23-year-old is currently with Basel - but they are believed to be happy for him to move on a free. Leutwiler has been preferred to Spaniard Jacobo Sanz, who also spent time with Boro over the past week.
