Aberdeen boss looking to sign Dundee midfielder

Aberdeen boss Craig Brown is optimistic midfielder Gavin Rae will complete a move to Pittodrie on Monday. Brown was linked with the midfielder after he left Cardiff in the summer but the 34-year-old went on to join Scottish First Division side Dundee. But Dons boss Brown is hopeful of bringing Rae to his hometown club after speaking to both the player and Dundee manager Barry Smith. He said: "He is hopefully going to sign for us - there are one or two administrative details that need to be ironed out.

Premature

"The first time I spoke to Gavin in this context was on Friday. I phoned Barry Smith and then I phoned Gavin. There were noises about him earlier in the week but I think that was a bit premature. "I spoke to Barry to ask permission, even though we didn't need to as he is out of contract or I think there is an agreement, but Barry was very helpful, although he was disappointed we were speaking to him. "I think other clubs were involved as well but I have spoken to him and the indications are that he is likely to come but he has not signed yet."
