Canadian faces long spell on sidelines after surgery
Cologne defender Kevin McKenna is out for six months after undergoing an operation on his left knee.
The 30-year-old Canada international, who signed for the Bundesliga club in July 2007 from FC Energie Cottbus, will now miss a large part of the German campaign.
The former Hearts player has scored three goals in 81 appearances for Cologne in the league, but club doctor Peter Schaferhoff confirmed the diagnosis.
He told
Sportinformationsdienst: "It was necessary for him to undergo a surgery due to the pains he felt.
"Kevin is quite well right now. He still will be likely to be missing out on first-team action for about six months of time."
Cologne have made a reasonable start to the Bundesliga season and face a difficult trip to Bayern Munich at the weekend.
