Shot-stopper back in training

Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny is hoping he can answer his team's prayers by returning to full fitness in time for the Bundesliga strugglers' next league game. The Czech Republic international has been out of action since September after enduring his first of two injuries in what has been a torrid few weeks for the 29-year-old shot-stopper. The former Ipswich and Fulham 'keeper suffered a thigh problem during Hertha's Europa League clash against FK Ventspils before sustaining a prolapsed disc which has since kept him on the sidelines. In Drobny's absence, Hertha have capitulated and are rooted to the bottom of the German top-flight, while the club have employed Friedhelm Funkel as their new manager to improve results. Funkel's appointment has yet to bring a turn-around in fortunes for last season's fourth-placed finishers, but Drobny is aiming to hand his new boss a boost in time for next Saturday's crucial clash at Nurnberg.

Hope

"I am back in training for now and I hope I am back available as soon as possible," he told the club's official website. "We are bottom of the league and there is really nothing worse than having to witness the matches without the chance to change a thing on the result." Hertha have suffered a goalkeeping crisis this term with a string of injuries to their men between the sticks. Second-choice goalkeeper Christopher Gäng has also been out with a foot injury forcing Hertha to sign unattached goalkeeper Timo Ochs in an attempt to up the competition beyond teenager Sascha Burchert at the Olympiastadion. But last Sunday Ochs picked up a thigh injury in what was his second appearance for his club leaving fourth choice Burchert as Hertha's only available option.
