Nafti: Points before pride

Mehdi Nafti insists points will be coming before local pride when Birmingham City take on Aston Villa.

Blues midfielder targeting Villa Park win

Mehdi Nafti insists points will take precedence over local pride when Birmingham City take on Aston Villa this weekend. Blues will be out for revenge following their late 2-1 defeat to their city rivals at St Andrews last November. However, with Alex McLeish's side just two points above the drop zone, Nafti believes his team-mates need to focus on the points and play with their heads, not their hearts. "The derby, because of our situation now, is not so important for us, if you understand what I mean," he told the Birmingham Mail. "It is not the be-all and end-all now, it is about winning a game.

Points

"Sure, if we win at Villa, for the fans and us it will be a great victory, a great thing. But I'm telling you, whether it's Villa or another team, we need to win to get points. "The fact of playing Villa away is not the biggest part. It's winning a game as soon as possible and staying in the Premier League."
