Defender considering international retirement

Reading full-back Ulises de la Cruz is considering his international future with Ecuador. De la Cruz is eager to play a full role for Reading and opted out of the friendly against Bolivia. He is also happy not to be involved in the upcoming games against Honduras and El Salvador, but admits he would rather be consulted by coach Luis Fernando Suarez before he picked his squads. "I respect the decision of the coach not to call me for the friendly games against Honduras and El Salvador," de la Cruz told Radio Super K800. "I understand that he was upset with me for not travelling to play against Bolivia, but I gave him enough reasons for why I did that. "I am a peaceful person and I don't like to cause problems so if the coach has decided this time not to call me for a friendly game I accept it. "But if he did it as a sanction I prefer to quit the national team." Ecuador kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup in October but de la Cruz insists he will turn his focus solely towards Reading if he continues to be overlooked by Suarez. He explained: "With my team I don't have any problem. "They always give me their support for being available for Ecuador but if this keeps on being handled in this way I prefer to continue working in Europe."
