Crewe sub Max Clayton scored his first league goal to earn a dramatic 2-1 victory over Morecambe for new boss Steve Davis.
Clayton, who made his England Under-18 debut in midweek, marked Davis' first npower League Two fixture in charge since taking over from Dario Gradi with a 94th minute winner. Morecambe looked set to be heading for a second successive home win when top scorer Kevin Ellison gave them the lead against the run of play in the 69th minute. A long Morecambe clearance saw Ellison outmuscle Crewe full back David Tootle to create the opening. His first shot was well saved by Steve Phillips but he was the quickest to the rebound and forced the ball over the line. But 10 minutes later Crewe were level when their star man, 17-year-old Nick Powell, scored with a 25-yard effort that beat Barry Roche low to his his left. And Clayton had the final word, pouncing from close range deep into stoppage time.
