Maritimo and Bordeaux shared the points in a closely-fought Europa League clash at the Estadio dos Barreiros in Funchal. Ligue 1 Bordeaux took a first-half lead through Yoan Gouffran, but Maritimo hit back soon after thanks to Frenchman Valentin Roberge and neither side could fashion a winning goal in the remainder of the match. The draw leaves Bordeaux on four points in Group D, now three behind leaders Newcastle, while Portuguese outfit Maritimo moved on to two points as they continue to prop up the standings. Neither goalkeeper was overly troubled in the opening half-hour, with home custodian Romain Salin comfortably gathering Henrique's early header and his Bordeaux counterpart Kevin Olimpa seeing efforts from Joao Guilherme and Leandro go harmlessly wide. However, just when the two keepers may have been thinking they would be in for a quiet night, both were beaten in the space of six minutes following a couple of moments of inspiration. Bordeaux took the lead in the 30th minute when Gouffran capped a superb run down the left by Benoit Tremoulinas with a close-range finish. That advantage did not last long before Maritimo drew level when Ruben Ferreira's brilliant 30-yard effort smashed against the bar and Roberge was alert to the rebound to slot past Olimpa. Another well-struck effort, albeit from a lot closer, then almost gave Maritimo the lead in the 54th minute, but Rafael Miranda's volley was blocked by Mariano. The two custodians were still not being worked much, though, with a mis-hit shot from Bordeaux forward Nicolas Maurice-Belay going wide, while Rodrigo Antonio and Leandro fired similarly unthreatening efforts wide for the hosts as time ticked away. In the final minutes Bordeaux midfielder Landry N'Guemo joined the growing list of players who failed to hit the target with a shot before Salin prevented a late scare for the hosts with a good take from a Mariano ball in.
