Morecambe claim victory
Macclesfield legend Sammy McIlroy returned to haunt his former club as Morecambe stole all three points and boosted their faint play-off hopes with a late winner in a 1-0 win at Moss Rose.
Giant centre-back David Artell produced the decisive moment in the 86th minute with a towering far-post header to convert a Garry Hunter corner.
Morecambe had already got the ball in the net three times, twice from first-half corners, but Diarmuid O'Carroll was ruled to have blocked off Jon Brain on both occasions.
Then in the 84th minute, Michael Twiss set up Hunter for a simple strike, only to be flagged for offside.
John Rooney had the best chance for Macc in the first half with a rising shot after 20 minutes, with Nat Brown nearly converting in the 31st minute with a far-post header.
They again went close after the break when a Lee Bell free kick flew inches wide of the far post with striker Emile Sinclair narrowly missing a vital touch.
