Struggling Arminia started the day a point outside the relegation zone and came from behind to secure a result which moves them up one spot in the Bundesliga table.
Cologne took the lead on 16 minutes when the hosts worked the ball on the left-hand side before Petit drove home from inside the box.
But Bielefeld were level two minutes before half-time when Christopher Katongo was on hand to steer home a loose ball.
The result leaves Cologne in 10th spot in the table, but stretches their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to six games.
