Demetriou downs U's

Jason Demetriou scored as Leyton Orient made the FA Cup second round at the expense of Colchester.

Demetriou scores with ten minutes to go to seal victory

Leyton Orient edged through to the second round of the FA Cup thanks to a 1-0 away win at League One rivals Colchester. Jason Demetriou weaved his way through the U's defence and planted a low shot into the far corner with 10 minutes to go to win it for the O's. Adam Boyd had headed John Melligan's cross over from a good position for Orient in an even first half. Only the agility of goalkeeper Mark Cousins prevented Demetriou and Sean Thornton from giving the visitors the lead just before half-time. The U's had their moments too before the break as Mark Yeates saw his cross pushed around the post by Orient goalkeeper Glenn Morris, who denied the same player again late in the first half after the Irishman had cut inside and unleashed a low curling shot.
