County lost Michael Johnson at half-time and another defensive slip let in Alan Goodall after 58 minutes to beat Hoult with a deflected shot.
The visitors at last woke up and three minutes later as Miles Weston crossed to the back post where Delroy Facey headed his third goal in as many games.
County looked as if they might repeat their midweek comeback at Gillingham but were caught on the break two minutes from time when Derek Niven was foiled by Hoult before Paul Harsley smashed in the rebound.
