Chesterfield missed a host of chances as Leyton Orient earned their first point of the season in a 0-0 away draw.
The result condemned Chesterfield to their worst start since 1901 and the home side also had striker Jack Lester stretchered off near the end after a collision with goalkeeper Lee Butcher. Chesterfield dominated much of the first half and Alex Mendy had a great chance to mark his debut with a goal in the fourth minute when a mistake by Ben Chorley sent him clear but he failed to beat Butcher. Orient almost snatched a goal on the break in the 25th minute when Mark Laird forced Tommy Lee into a sprawling save, but Lester blazed over from eight yards a minute later and Chesterfield's frustration mounted when Mendy and Craig Westcarr both had efforts cleared off the line in a frantic scramble at the end of the first half. In the second half Dean Cox headed wide for Orient and Chesterfield substitute Scott Boden flashed a header past the post deep into stoppage time.
