Alsop equals scoring record as Robins fly
Julian Alsop equalled Cheltenham's all-time scoring record as the Robins returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Morecambe to ease any lingering relegation fears.
Mark Yates' side went into the clash on the back of a six-match winless streak but secured the points in convincing style with strikes in either half from Alsop and Matt Thornhill.
Alsop broke the deadlock with his 38th goal for Cheltenham in the 33rd minute, climbing highest to power in a towering header from a David Bird corner.
Both players were involved in the second, created when Alsop nodded down Bird's cross for Thornhill to drill in from 15 yards just before the hour for his second goal in three appearances.
Morecambe began the match brightly but faded as the game wore on, although they still had good scoring chances, most notably when Paul Mullin beat the offside trap in the first half but shot tamely as Scott Brown came off his line.
Brown also denied Stewart Drummond from point-blank range after the interval to keep the Robins' two-goal advantage intact, while top-scorer Phil Jevons hooked a shot over from six yards.
