Cardiff boss bemoans spot-kick decision

Cardiff boss Dave Jones believes his side were on the wrong end of a bad decision as they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace. Leading 1-0 and with the half-time whistle approaching, the Bluebirds were stunned when referee Lee Mason pointed to the spot following a challenge by Tony Capaldi that looked outside the area. Ben Watson fired home the spot-kick to give Palace a point. City had begun in promising fashion with skipper Darren Purse heading home a Stephen McPhail corner in the ninth minute but despite some neat play they were unable to add to their lead. Palace came out strongly in the second half yet it was Cardiff who squandered late chances to net a rare home victory. "The referee made the decision far too quickly and should have consulted the linesman because it was well outside the penalty area," said Cardiff boss Dave Jones.

Pressure

"Once we had scored we took control and with a bit more quality we could have gone on to win. "Palace came with a game plan, stuck to it and have gone away with a point. "We started well but after they scored the pressure mounted on us and we missed a couple of late chances. "I don't think it was the best performance by a referee that I have seen as some of his decisions were strange." "I am never happy with a point particularly because I tried to win the game but we are improving all the time," said Palace manager Neil Warnock. "We were positive, particularly in the second half, because I would have been happy going in at half-time a goal down. "We lacked a little depth in the final third and they had chances to nick it towards the end but I think we deserved a point."
