Michael Collins hit his third goal in three games to give Huddersfield a third straight league win at Brighton.
The midfielder scored a last minute winner at Leeds last weekend and reacted sharply to turn in a close-range shot five minutes after the break to seal a 1-0 win for the managerless Terriers.
The Seagulls were handed a lifeline when Nicky Forster was brought down by Jonathan Worthington, but Terriers goalkeeper Matt Glennon brilliantly saved the home skipper's spot-kick 15 minutes from time.
Forster struck the penalty low and hard but Glennon dived to his right to save and then superbly denied Bradley Johnson as the midfielder attempted to convert the rebound.
Brighton striker Glenn Murray was thwarted by the woodwork midway through the first half and Johnson slammed a 40-yard free-kick against the bar in the closing stages.
Brighton pushed hard for an equaliser and the impressive Glennon made a vital late save to deny Kevin Thornton.
