Striker leads Bantams to victory
Two goals from last season's leading scorer Peter Thorne helped Bradford kick-off the new season with a 2-1 win over Notts County.
Thorne, who scored a hat-trick against the Magpies in last season's corresponding fixture, put the Bantams ahead after 22 minutes with a header from new-boy Paul Arnison's cross from the right.
In the 61st minute Thorne made it 2-0 with a smart overhead kick from six yards after intercepting a misplaced clearance from Adam Nowland.
At that stage, Bradford looked set for a comfortable win but Richard Butcher pulled a goal back for the visitors after 72 minutes to set up a tense finish.
